RESEARCH INTERESTS

The core research focuses on the development and validation of analytical methods for the identification and verification of chemicals listed under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), including their degradation products. This work significantly strengthens India’s national security by enhancing its capability to detect and identify chemical warfare agents and their degradation products.

The research supports India’s obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) by developing advanced analytical methods for verification and compliance. Participation in OPCW proficiency tests and hosting the Analytical Skills Development Course (ASDC) demonstrates India’s scientific leadership and contributes to international capacity building.

Additionally, the developed analytical methods enhance public safety and environmental monitoring, directly supporting the mandate of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Key Areas of Research

  1. Analytical method development using advanced techniques such as GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, NMR, and high-resolution (Orbitrap) mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS)
  2. Development of novel derivatization methods and comprehensive mass spectral studies for improved detection and identification of CWC-related compounds
  3. Participation in OPCW Environmental and Biomedical Proficiency Tests to ensure compliance with international standards

Additionally, active involvement in the implementation of the Analytical Skills Development Course (ASDC) — a prestigious OPCW-sponsored international training program hosted by IPFT — aimed at capacity building in CWC-relevant chemical analysis for scientists from OPCW member states.
